Sweet treats for the local community
Residents of Arvida Te Puna Waiora recently welcomed members of the local Good Bitches Baking community group for a special social baking event.
Volunteers worked alongside residents for a day of creativity, connection and giving back. Using the Te Ripo Wai Clubhouse in the village at 59 Hall Road Kerikeri, the bakers baked and decorated a massive amount of brightly multicoloured star-shaped biscuits.
The treats were individually plastic wrapped and sealed with a sticker. They were then donated to several local charitable organisations, including Hospice, Ngāti Rēhia, Bald Angels and Riding for the Disabled.
Bay of Islands Good Bitches chapter head Lisa Jarrett thanked the retirement community for hosting the event, providing the ingredients and supporting the initiative. “It was wonderful to work together to provide moments of kindness for our community,” she said.
The residents regularly cook and bake in the Clubhouse kitchen, mostly for resident social events and village morning teas. This time it was about spreading a little sweetness for a good cause.
