Heartfelt community spirit moves resident

When Diane Nicholls faced the challenge of recovering from surgery recently, she never expected the outpouring of kindness from her resident neighbours.

"There has been chicken soup and all sorts of lunches and dinners left at my door. I’ve had so many visitors coming in to check on me too. It truly has been wonderful and a comfort for me when I needed it," Diane shares.

Having been a resident of Arvida Peninsula Club for two years, Diane moved to the retirement community after finding the maintenance of her larger home becoming too much to handle. Selling her house quickly, she settled into her one-bedroom independent apartment, complete with a balcony that features beautiful Stanmore Bay views.

“I didn’t realize how lonely I was in my old home until I moved into a place like this where it’s the complete opposite. We look out for each other here and people go out of their way to brighten your day,” Diane reflects.

If ever the 86-year-old tires of catching up with friends on the phone, she merely walks down the corridor of her apartment complex and there’s almost always someone around. “It is very friendly here and I find everyone says hello to you.”

Now that Diane is on the mend, her positive experience has even inspired a long-time friend from outside the village to sell up and join Diane in her friendly retirement community.
